2015 President's Message
The 2015 AGM is now behind us and the PMI Manitoba board of directors is looking forward to another year, infused with excitement, some new board members, and a new set of goals to offer the members the enhancements we’re committed to deliver.
While 2014 was a milestone year for us, our strategy for 2015 is to continue building on the solid foundation we laid in 2014, and to develop a strong culture of renewal, expansion of member services, and increased value to our sponsors.
The progress we made in 2014 is a catalyst that will strengthen our planning and execution strategy as we refine our goals for 2015.
Goal 1 – Enhance Member Value
We are exploring more ideas to provide PDU opportunities for our members. Dinner meetings and breakfast workshops are being developed to supplement the regular monthly chapter meeting luncheons. We’re looking to improve the membership renewal process and improve the method for reporting PDU’s for our members. A new guest pass program will introduce non-members to our events and we’ll increase the range of events to appeal to a broader PM community. And for our members who are looking towards certifications, we are developing an expanded approach to facilitating the pursuit of new certifications and recognition of new certificate holders.
Goal 2 – Enhance Sponsor Value
Our Marketing committee is actively working to increase the range of sponsorship organizations to better reflect the project management community. By developing in-kind opportunities and an increased range of events, we will be able to provide broader appeal to new sponsors and other professional organizations.
Goal 3 – Enhance Volunteer Value
In order to deliver the enhanced member services we are planning, we need to have a solid base of chapter volunteers. While PMI Manitoba has always provided volunteer opportunities to develop skills and support our chapter, this year we will focus on further defining and expanding our volunteer program. This includes structuring committees to create succession plans for providing paths for growth and development, and creating a structure for performance management that encourages coaching and mentoring. And we’re looking forward to recognizing the commitment and passion of our volunteers by establishing a Volunteer Recognition Award.
Goal 4 – Strengthen Member Engagement
Through our new website, digital newsletter, and social media presences, PMI Manitoba will continue to reach out and engage current and potential members. In 2014, we brought back the newsletter in a new electronic format. Look for it in your inbox each Monday morning. In the newsletter, you’ll find links to register for upcoming chapter events, news on what’s happening in the project management community in Manitoba, and ideas on how to capitalize on the resources available through PMI Global. Our new website provides a more user friendly experience and makes it easy for members and non-members alike to register for events and find out what’s happening in the chapter.
Goal 5 – Establish New Financial Controls and Chart of Accounts
This fiscal year, the chapter introduced a new Chart of Accounts and a financial controls framework to leverage the new reporting capabilities of our new registration system. The new chart of accounts will better delineate our chapter revenue, our cost of delivering services, and our cost of running the chapter. This framework, in addition to providing meaningful governance information to the Board, will allow individual portfolio directors to better track their performance on the specific events they manage.
In addition to the board plans for 2015, this year we will continue offering some of the same services and activities that we have in the past.
We will again hold our strategic planning session in May to elicit and identify the key deliverables to support the ongoing growth of the chapter. We have a diverse lineup of presenters at our monthly chapter meetings. We’ve re-introduced dinner meetings and have extended our line-up of networking events.
With the exciting changes to our organizational structure and new additions to our board of directors, we are poised to push to the next level of membership growth and establish our profession as an integral component to success in organizations throughout our city and province. As fellow members we encourage your ideas and suggestions so we may continue to offer the services you’ve come to expect from PMI Manitoba as well as services that add value on a personal and professional level. I look forward to your continued support in helping us move in this new and exciting direction.
